Short description
-
Founded in 1951 in Perth, the Slow Learning Children's Group (SLCG) was initiated by parents of children with intellectual disabilities. The group aimed to enhance educational opportunities, offer proper residential accommodations, create meaningful employment, and foster independence for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Western Australia. In 1989, the organization rebranded itself as the Activ Foundation. This transformation marked a significant shift in its mission and services, focusing on empowering individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. The SLCG's inception followed several years of collaborative efforts among parents, teachers, and supporters associated with the Education Department's kindergarted class for disabled children at the University of Western Australia
